Understanding Proof of Work vs. Proof of Stake Consensus
MAQ Team 5 min read
Blockchains rely on consensus mechanisms to ensure that all transactions are valid and that no double-spending occurs.
Proof of Work
The older system, Proof of Work (PoW), requires miners to solve complex mathematical puzzles using powerful computing hardware, which consumes substantial electricity.
Proof of Stake
Proof of Stake (PoS) allows validators to secure the network by locking up or 'staking' a specific amount of the native token. PoS is significantly more energy-efficient, faster, and allows blockchains to scale efficiently while still maintaining robust cryptographic security across thousands of global nodes.
